Through the shards of the narrators' accounts and recollections, we discover that Lucy longed for escape. The people who realized Lucy thought of an on colossal her as a craftsman materials with water from tide pools and changed her room wall into a painting with "a whirl of sea tones." Through Layla we discover that Lucy had the desire to go to class in New York; Later, Sophia lets us know that Lucy envisioned the city as a spot where "you can be whoever you need," in contrast to Nashquitten, where "all that you do turns into a stain that sticks to you perpetually." Lucy's imperfection was her epilepsy - she'd had a seizure on the floor of a school transport prior that year, and one of her cohorts shot it and made the video's soundtrack 'highlighting an EDM tune whose beat matched the shaking of her body'. | |
